A delightful day at the Manda School in Dhaka

The Bording Group and Rotary Copenhagen have been fundraisning to support a local school project in the capital of Bangladesh, Dhaka. In Bangladesh, it is very important for slum schools to supply their pupils with school dinners, since the children otherwise can be forced to drop out of school to provide food for themselves.

On a hot day in June, it was time to hand over the big cheque for 10,800 Euros which will cover food cost for the entire school for one quarter of a year.

Bording’s representative, Mr. Peter Schjodt, the Danish Ambassador Mr. Svend Olling and the chairman of Dhaka’s Rotary Club Mr. Matin visited the Manda School. They received a warm welcome from the founder and chairman of the school, Mr. Babul. The teachers and children gave each visitor a beautiful flower  as a welcoming gesture.

The visitors were taken on a guided tour in the six story building that accommodate the school with over 800 pupils and teachers, there was plenty to see.

The formal part of the day came after the tour. Mr. Babul and his staff had arranged beautiful singing and dancing. Mr. Olling and Mr. Matin thanked the school for the warm welcome and promised to revisit with a new cheque.  Mr. Schjodt emphasised the importance of education for each child and for the future of Bangladesh.

The school thanked Rotary and Bording for their support in raising funds for school dinners.

Before leaving, the tired children each received two mangos. The visitors left the school tired, warm and grateful for being able to help.
